Young voters talk about why it's important for people to get up and vote down Prop 8. Protect marriage equality! http://www.NoOnProp8.com/idecide

Prop 8 harms one of my children and my entire family, says Itzhak Perlman, world-renowned violinist. The constitution should not be used to treat people differently. Vote No on Prop 8!

  • In my humble opinion, the LEGAL way to settle this whole nonsense would be to make it so ALL "marriages" (or whatever they so happen to be called) are done through a LEGAL REGISTRY (similar to divorce) and if the participating parties wish to celebrate the event in some way, good for them.

I personally look at the religious ceremony aspect of a "marriage" the same way I look at the catering aspect. Only obligated by contract, and neither should grant legal status or rights.

  • @glassesfreak well, now you are just playing semantics while trying to relegate a legal term to the status of a colloquial term.

I'm speaking on the differences between the legal term "Marriage" and the religious ritual the general public has come to call marriage. If a particular religious sect does not wish to preform the aforementioned ritual for gay couples they have the right not to. At the same time I am asking what business does a religious institution have bestowing LEGAL rights?

  • @tbone2872 certain tax deductions, the ability to register assets jointly, etc.

  • @n0s1r Marriage doesn't come from religion, it's a human social custom that pre-dates christianity. A chruch that's privately owned has the right to not marry any couple, but any couple has the right to marry. End of story.

Even without legal benefits people can still be married. Call it in office whatever you want, couples will still say "I'm married."

  • @AmblingSoul bot bots froom bigots

  • Wow it's so sad to see that this video has more dislikes than likes. I wish people weren't so eager to take away the rights of their peers.

  • @n0s1r What governmental benefits?

  • fuck you catherine and austin.

    welp, that felt good.

  • @thetruth6789 but yeah, essentially this shit shouldn't even be on the ballot because it has NOTHING to do with Government.

  • @thetruth6789 My ACTUAL opinion on the matter of gay marriage is Marriage is a RELIGIOUS institution so it's up to the heads of those religions if you can get married or not, end of story.

The TRUE problem is that in American society being married awards you certain governmental benefits which it SHOULDN'T because there is supposed to be a separation of Church and State.

Gay folks... Don't try to fight the marriage issue, fight the governmental benefits issue.
