This was my grandmother's favorite song. I sang it to her before she died. It brings me to tears every time I hear it.

This is the best sung version of the song that I've heard.

When you think about Bugs bunny, Yosemite Sam, Daffy duck, Wil-e coyote and Road runner it's hard to take this song seriously until you understand the meaning of it. I still can see the piano or xylophone exploding at 0:25

Bored of Education is when Alfalfa (Carl Switzer) sang this song! R.I.P. Carl Switzer from August 7th, 1927 to January 21st, 1959.

@strawhat1951 I stand corrected, sorry

@Velvet4U He can certainly sing it better than you can write it.

This song lose all it's meaning when you remember bugs bunny playing it in the piano hahaha.

I first heard this tune on a Road Runner cartoon over 30 years ago (IED rigged paino scene), but did not know the name until now!
This song takes on more meaning when you learn that Thomas wrote it for his wife Bessy, whom he married when she was fourteen, after she had contracted a terrible skin disease which robbed her of her beauty. She feared greatly that Thomas would leave her. He wrote this song for her to reassure her that he never would, and he never did. It's said that she had locked herself in her room away from the world and that this song gave her the courage to come back out into the light.

One might also remember hearing this at the very beginning of "Come On Eileen" by Dexy's Midnight Runners.
