Hillary made so many mistakes in that campaign though, this was one but there were cascades of others small and large. if she'd been nominated she'd probably be president-elect now, and she was favourite right up until when it mattered.
One thing ended up dominating the election though, and it wasn't security, or even the economy (stupid or otherwise) - it was the adstract concept of "change". everyone was shouting for it, but obama shouted the loudest
