Back in 1972, my high school art teacher thought it would be a good idea, for us to go to the beach and make Sandcastles. I thought it would be a better idea to shoot a movie, so, I did! The school was Ridgewood High in Norridge Illinois. The beach was North Avenue Beach, Chicago. I shot it on regular 8mm, silent, with an old Mansfield Holiday Zoom camera, on Kodachrome II double perf.. The digital transfer is a bit fluttery, as the original was shot at 16 f.p.s., and video is 30 f.p.s., I had to slow the projector to about 15 f.p.s. That was fun since I was using a 1946 Ampro, who's motor is a bit 'iffy'. I pretty much had my hand on the speed adjust the whole time, so I was able to keep the flutter down to a minimum. The music you hear, is what I played at the original showing in school. It's not what I would choose if I were to make the film new today, but what the heck, it's a restoration, right? You're hearing an instrumental version of "California Girls" by the 'Beach Boy's', and, "New York City Blues", by Bonnie Koloc. No Copyright infringement is intended or implied, I do not own the rights to these songs. I only thought they fit the images at the time. Enjoy!
