Here is a short but informative clip featuring one of the most respected coaches in Russia and the World, Sergey Rudnev. He is demonstrating (along with Sergey Rachinskiy, on the left) how you need to lean back slightly as you lower the kettlebells from the Rack, letting your arms straighten out until your elbows and forearms contact your torso. He explains how you shouldn't lean forward too early (i.e. following the bells) because the "unbalanced" nature of this technique leads to early fatigue and possible straining of the low-back. Note: the clip starts with Rudnev demonstrating another common error in Long Cycle, letting your elbows slide off your torso as the KBs come down from overhead. You need to keep your upper-arms on your torso, near to your center-line as you can.

  • You use the deflection of the body when you lower the snatch from above, and you keep the upper arm glued to your torso on the backswing. You only use your traps and rhomboids briefly when you pull the snatch and clean as the backswing ends (in front of mid-thighs.

  • this is a nice vid. i need to know how to prevent strain the trapezius/rhomboid on the descent in both the snatch and long cycle right b/f the bell passes between the legs. is it just a matter of strength/conditioning? if anyone knows of any trainings in the Maryland area please let me know. I need to get this right! Thanks.
