I collapsed of an aortic dissection caused by a bicuspid aortic valve. I had no Idea I was born with this defect. Luckilly the surgeons were able to save my life. They used a vein from my left leg for a graft, did a bypass and replaced my valve with a mechanical valve. 4 days after that surgery I had a pace maker installed because one of the nodes in my heart would no longer fire on it's own. I honestly believe that my training as an EMT played a big factor in my survival.I'm Sorry for your loss
