I have Asperger and have no problems driving. It does not effect my driving. In the Nehterlands the driving test is difficult but I passed the first time.
No problem guessing distances, how traffic reacts or reaction time. I like driving. Its relaxing. No problem with music.
I think in many ways people with autism are better drivers because they obey to the rules and take less risks.
Autism does not effect driving. Some can't drive, but there are also many people without autism that can't.

@RobingdfelowsLady I did actually break down on the way back aswell. my throttle cable snapped at 65mph lol extremely scary. I actually though I blown my engine because I was at full throttle at the time and I just lost all power untill I pulled in and it was still idling. I idled it up the side of the road untill the next service station and found the hook for the cable had come off the carb. The thing is when I got home I had took all my stuff out the tool box to fix it and I left my oil seals

lol I know how you feel. I rode my vespa (scooter) to from hull to grimsby and back on the highway (A road) (about a 50 mile ride) with strong winds surrounded by cars and trucks with my extremely unreliable 2 stroke engine screaming at me to buy some oil seals for an engine I want to rebuild. The only reason I went that day is because I had been planning it all week. I do much prefer riding on the back roads but you do get some idoits on them scaring you to death.
I have Aspergers, and I had such bad panic attacks and anxiety while driving I had to take Ativan before the driving to just make it through the trips. I got excellent marks on the book test portion of the driving course. However, I couldn't realistically keep taking drugs just to drive. It got so bad I had to stop. I am also very uncoordinated physically. I just plan on living in a big city when I get out of college so I dont have to drive

I was lucky. My parents didn't make me take any of the tests until I was 18. I did really well then, because I felt like I was ready for it. We had a very calm teacher, which also helped. I'm great at driving nice quiet country roads. Put me on an 8 lane highway, and I want to get away from it and go home and hide lol. The driving does get some easier as you figure out what things you need to work on most (things that will be specific to each person's sensory system).

I am 17 years old and (like you stated) i have never had a any interest in driving (at least not compared to my parents). I remember when i was first learning how to drive 2 years ago it was very stressful and i didn't understand all the hype. My parents bought me a car around the time i first got my liscense and it did nothing but sit in the drive way. In fact, the only time i ever did drive it was to run errands for my parents. and yes, there is so much to think about when you're driving.

@tyroblogger Thanks for sharing this. I think it is helpful for parents and others to know what driving is like for us.
