In this Chase Jarvis TECH video Chase gives the play by play on how to merge flash photography with shooting high speed action sports sequences. Using his Broncolor Scoro lighting gear, his Nikon D3, and SanDisk Extreme Pro cards he shoots some of the best skiers and boarders in the world at 8 frames per second - flashed - as a part of his recent campaign for SanDisk.

  • Fantastic video and shots....really great work as always!

Just a Q: The D3 max FPS in FX format is 9, and not 8 FPS as you say in the video. Are you tuning the FPS rate down for a reason? or is it 9 you mean? Don´t mean to be picky just curious.

Just got the ProFoto 8Air to use the same high speed technique in other types of shots.

    Anyway great woork!

  • nikon used to report 8fps for d3...somewhere along the lines they upped it to 9. so I guess 9 it is.

regarding the profoto. great pack for sure, but consider that the broncolor scoro is a 3200 w/s pack whereas the profoto is only 2400. as such you can get the same fps using both, but with 1/3 more power using the bronc. sidenote: the broncolor is also less expensive than the profoto.

  • the flashes arent perfectly synced with the video. the video is recorded at 24 or 30frames per second, and the flashes are sometimes happening between frame, or half in the frame.

  • @achaser123 what lense did you shoot the skiiers with that where going off the jump at night with the strobe light??????

  • Is it just me or does Chase, when uttering slang superlatives i.e. "sick, filthy, nasty, etc.", sound like he just recently started using those words- like when an english teacher trys so hard to be hip with his high school class

  • i love the sound of that strobe

  • Wish I'm in this crew:(

  • So, the athletes didn't get epileptic attacks after repeating this so many times? :D

  • Absolutely love the sound of that strobe. wow a sounds like a war in space lmao

  • Hey Chase, is it possible to get the same results with speedlights? I don't have the same budget as you do and don't have the needs for strobes other then for ski shooting. so it would be unnecessary to buy something and use it for a short period of time.

  • how do you set up the strobes? i dont get it? do i put my d90 with long exposure? Thanks

  • Wonder if a long exposure with a stroboscopic setting on canons 580EX2 can do something similar? Interesting application!

  • so why don't you use a continuous light?

anyway great work and thank you for sharing!
