You encapsulate what this song means to me and I am sure to many others. My guess is that those with the moxie and gumption to leave their homeland have helped make us what we are. and you illustrated it well.

My family's Persian. I was born in US. My family & I disagree about many things. 1 of the things we do agree on is [in their own words] after visiting family in Iran, coming back home to US, they wanna kiss the good dirt of the USA. Now, nothing against other nations. I just desire democracy & a free Iran man. My dad once told my uncle, "Americans are 'a' mighty & free people!" Iranians are mighty but not free.
