During this segment of the show Dr. Mitchell speaks about African American voting and participation in politics. Dr. Mitchell speaks about the fact that Southern whites lost their "reign" in American politics due to the increasing number of African American voters. He also speaks about the important role in which the armed forces played in making sure that African Americans were treated fairly at the poles and their costly services, which led to them hav

  • Keiana Webb (Hist 2020): The southern whites were halted by the power and influence that blacks gained; whites attempted to discourage blacks from voting and their political involvement period. However, they then realized they needed blacks as laborers. They made them feel as if they had a voice but they really didn't. In 1890, the voice of the black man was removed, and whites were viewed as a superior race.

  • DeVonna D. Young (History 2020-07) 1-24-11: The whites were against the power that the blacks gained. Federal troops were removed that were against the new governmental motives. The south after the civil were needed the labors of the slaves but it was not always for racism. It would be more like politically looking at the growth and production of their plantations. South didn’t know how to deal with the northern industrialized counterparts while the northern states gained much advantage.

  • Tyann Nelson (HIST 2020-07) The South lost the Civil War. Blacks were free and able to vote. Many states created poll taxes.literacy test, and tried to make it hard for blacks to find a place to vote inorder to keep blacks from voting. Whites and organizations like the Ku Klux Klan was created and tried to intimidate the blacks to keep them from voting. There were even violent acts towards blacks taken place at the voting centers.

  • Stephanie Starling (Hist 2020-07). Although slaves where free African Americans were still enslave with "white rules" by paying poll taxes and taking literacy test.

  • Amecia Harland (Hist 2020-07) Reunification of south after the war: Union soldiers return back to the south and there is no one to protect the voting rights of blacks. White organization (Ku Klux Klan and etc.) are created out of frustration and they begin to intimidate blacks not to vote. Voting rights and representation is los for African American is the south. Black people’s voice is removed from government in 1890m, placing whites as the superior race above Blacks.

The reconstruction period was based off reuniting the unions and adding structure. But it was a point of struggle because Southerners broke from the union and formed their own separate confederacies. Which had a great impact on the civil war because of the differences between the North and South. This was also seen as those who wanted union's reunited vs. those who wanted to punish the South. The brawl reached it's peak when blacks begin to get highly involved.

  • South was fed up after losing the war and with the "white rule" gone, their hatred is formed into gorups like the kukluxklan, ect. To make things worse the north took out the troops and started inforcing marshal laws, not really letting freemans voice into southern law.Status based solely on race, instead of class. Thus the start of racism.
