OK, Mt. Stone.

Predictable level title, isn't it?

Difficulty: For a player with no prior knowledge, 50/10. It would be around 25/10, if not for the extremely obscure secret that is REQUIRED to finish the level!!

The secret? The platforms with a single stone block inside them (at 2:30 and 5:05) act as pipes.

There is NOTHING at all to tell you this!

Well, there is a message block, but it displays a black box... No help there.

How did I find out the secret, then? This video.

The rest of the level isn't that easy, either. Lots of falling blocks. Falling blocks do not regenerate unless you exit and re-enter the area. Some of them are necessary to cross gaps or reach high platforms.

The two red coin Fly Guys, as usual, are hard to reach in time...

The falling-through-spikes section has not much room for error...

And the car morph section at the end is difficult as well.

Finally - Notice how one red coin and one flower are off-screen? This will become more and more common later...

Note: Hold B when bouncing off the Shy Guy (6:23) to boost to the flower. Otherwise, the car will fall in the pit, and Yoshi will die.

Note 2: There are a few resemblances to the original 2-7 - most notably the falling blocks (there was a room full of them in the original), and the fact that there is the car morph at the end.

  • Concerning the "blank message box", that might've been an SNES9x-only glitch. I've seen some people play this hack on ZSNES and it worked fine there.

I guess this is why you should test your hack on all major emulators, huh?

(BTW, if this is a double post, sorry; Youtube is being a b****)

  • It works on ZSNES?

Anyway, it works if the Layer Ordering Property is set to 5. (I looked for a common setting in many original YI levels containing message blocks.)

    About hack testing...

At least release a "nearly complete" version of the hack for others to test. (SNN specifically said he would not fix anything when he released this, according to an old topic at SMWCentral.)

Then again, if SNN fixed everything, I wouldn't be having so much fun learning Eggvine now...
