Otis in Side Reins for first time

This is my 'Training baby'. He's a 10 yr old OTTB who has literally done nothing but sit in a pasture for like, 5 years. He's very sweet and willing... though he was unsure about the side reins at first and always gets really worried the first time you put them on, once he gets moving he's alright. Just woriking on building up that top-line so he doesn't look so awkward.

I'm working on the same thing as well! Your ottb has a really nice slow trot.... Dottie (my ottb mare) has trouble slowing and lowering her head... darn racing career! any suggestions that you have for me? You pretty much have the same situation as me! 13 yr old, off track since she was 3, was owned by someone else until december who did nothing with her

What all have you done with her? Do you have her undersaddle yet, or are you still working with her on the ground? Cause there are several things you can do at various stages....

I'm undersaddle with her now--we did a month of groundwork and are working on her riding manners-- She's doing so much better now, but just doesnt get the point of slow gaits! :P haha, I do lots of half halts, and she gets the point, but she just doesn't stay at that pace unless i keep a hold on her face (which has to be annoying and uncomfortable)
