Coloratura, Joan Sutherland sings an aria from Bellini's "I Puritani." This is Young Sutherland at her best.

wait, her voice was too BIG for Queen of the Night? last time I checked it was the QUEEN of the Night and written for a DRAMATIC coloratura soprano. I feel her voice was among the most appropriate to sing that kind of role. The Queen of the Night was never intended to be the squeaky, sugary princess she's usually portrayed as by lighter voices (listen to Edda Moser for an ideal interpretation)
PS: youtube needs an italics option, the all caps make me feel like I'm screaming lol

oh no, you're the ignorant one. I don't wanna convince you, I don't have to. Let your ignorance continue. You're judging singers based on the size of their voices. Interesting :)
Bye, don't reply, I hate inbox spams. If you your ears are so poor that you just want audible sounds, this is much understandable. But as I'm still young and my ears still function well, I want something more - more than big sounds.

As for the Queen of the Night, Sutherland's voice was just too big and she didn't have the squeaking top top notes required. She stopped singing it rather early. I'd love to hear Devia sing Turandot. As it was I heard her Lucia and her Gilda and almost everything else -- completely forgettable in everything.
