Wonderful performance. Thank you for sharing. Prokofiev fans - you may also enjoy my all-time favorite recording of Prokofiev no 2 piano concerto with Gutierrez and Jarvi.

saw this live in Amsterdam last month, wish i was back there now. it's just stunning live. Same pianist but different orchestra and venue. Concertgebouw and The Luxemburg PO were both wonderful. Lugansky is a master of this concerto. He totally OWNS that cadenza

@iansquared3 It's weird - with some music, you get the feeling that it sailed out of the ether, that it was always there. That's supposed to be the mark of good music, that it sounds like it always existed. What I find with Prokofiev is that this is never the case, and that's what makes it so amazing - it sounds like it never COULD have existed, ever. Like it's prohibited, completely. Alien music from an alternate heaven.

I absolutely LOVE Prokofiev's special brand of atonality. It's haunting and beautiful, absolutely unlike any other composer's atonality.

@MyKarllos Dear Pianotonton, now it's your turn! Please, excuse my indigent English. I said that the Lugansky's choice for this specific execution was bad. The
play that I said above is Vladimir Feltsman, with Michael Tilson Thomas and the London Symphony Orchestra! It's perfect. IMPORTANT: I love Lugansky above all!

Dear Pianotonton,
please hear Evgeny Kissin, the studio version here in Youtube.
His pace is perfect.
And Efgeny, in my opinion, is not better pianist than Lugansky.
Is only a question of pace. Lugansky's choice for this specific excecution was bed.
It isn't a relative question. It's the ZEN of the 2nd concerto.
I heard, I don't remember, a pianist and the England or London Phillarmonic (cd)! Impeccable, perfect and divine, zen.
I think that Lugansky can do much more with the Prokofiev II

@JasonBorba Pora ! Felizmente, Nikolay Lugansky toco muito bem o concerto 2 de Prokofiev : o tempo e bom, perfectamente bom ! a cadenza do primerio movimento e incredivlel (disculpe para meo portuges !)

Too slowly! Infelizmente um dos maiores pianistas do mundo, senão o melhor, tocando uma das mas belas peças, a executou muito lentamente!

I haven't heard this piece in quite awhile and had forgotten the jaw dropping beauty of the melody along with the layers!
I think it's the most beautiful of all the Prokofiev piano concertos...
