Not so paradox: the small boat always has a good sail area to weight. scale it up by , a factor 2 :Sails are 4 times as big and weight 8 times.
The little Optimist with its crude sail proves very good and fast in light winds.

also i'm surprised the unconventional design works so well in so little wind. in sail design the paradigm is higher aspect high stress rig, deep foils and so on. Guess that's the upwind racing bias. It's interesting to see a boat that goes against all those modes and still works as well or better. truly a paradox.

Paradox does have a flat bottom with a lot of rocker fore and aft. She carries lead and water ballast.

Paradox is comfortable with a forward facing seat and steering lines. The ergonomics of the boat are excellent - everything is to hand which makes for effortless sailing.

Wildblue2, In answer to your question about being hypnotic, I think it is because 'Faith', the Paradox sailboat featured in the video, is in harmony with the elements. One feels a sense of contentment and peace.
