This is an actual Airbus A320 CAT III autoland approach and landing at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, runway 26L. The weather was "slightly better" than announced in the ATIS. Visibility 700m, cloudbase around 150 feet. Now figure flying at the lowest minimum of 75m RVR (runway visual range) which translates to approximately 30-40meters visibility and decision height ZERO, which means You decide after mainwheel touchdown by seeing one or two centerline lights if you are going to land. Quick decision recommended.
The video insert of the PFD (primary flight display) was made during a simulator session a few days later. During the real world approach we didn't have neither time nor hands free for the camera...

  • Being familiar to the A32X serries, can you answer a questionf or me? Is the master warning a single continuous dinging (like a looping master caution) or a triad/cav charge like the A/P disconnect?

  • @coolmanak

    It's the former: continous bell

  • what does retard mean? and also what is radar height?

  • @magnumthunder

"retard" is a reminder to "retard" the thrust levers to idle before touchdown.

"Radar height" is the height of the main wheels above the surface measured by a radar altimeter (also called radio altimeter as opposed to barometric altimeter))

  • Did the airplane just called you retard? Damn AI.

  • nice ...

  • i remeber landing in an Airbus A340. I think it was on autoland to. Smooth as silk!

The fly by wire controls are amazing! Ads far greater precision to control over winged surfaces than traditional mechanical controls

  • wow amazing

  • cool
