Samples of 3 intense tracks from McCoy Tyner's Supertrios album - ( copyright Milestone Records ) "The Greeting" with Tony Williams on drums, Ron Carter -bass , "Hymn-Song" with Jack De Johnnette drums, Eddie Gomez -bass, and "Wave" with Tony Williams -drums and Ron Carter -bass. With the power house drumming performances on these tracks the music approaches the energy level of fusion and is great example of these players at the peak of their powers.

  • I wish Tyner had recorded more with Williams. The Soothsayer by Wayne Shorter is the most kick ass rhythm section ever minus Reggie Workman or Richard Davis. Shorter's compositions plus Hubbard, damn. Tyner and Tony were the perfect blend for Wayne Shorter.

  • I agree , but also think Jack DeJohnette just tore it up here on the track "Hymn-Song" , that was awesome .

  • My favorite album of all time- never tired of hearing it..for over 30yrs

  • One of my favorite versions of Wave by any artist is the one on this album! Thanks for posting.

  • @stringrip Jack DeJohnette can do know wrong in my book. He makes thing happen. He plays the drums like Wynton Kelly plays the piano. Harmony, melody, rhythm, and virtuosic taste.
