@grimsbyarcher the 0 on the square is the bottom of the arrow. 3/8" above the 0 is roughly the top of the arrow...so the nock point is at the top of the arrows nock. Then the arrow is nocked below the nock point.
I have done all 10 of my bows this way and they all shoot straight off the shelf.
When I shot with fingers with my hunting bows (recurve and compound) I did this as well and it paper tuned bullet holes.

@RisingSunOutdoors Surely you place the arrow ABOVE the nocking point?
You measured off 3/8" above square, then worked down the bowstring, so the bottom of your nocking point is now almost on the square (zero) point. If you place the arrow below the nocking point, it'd be below square

is there anyway to find the nock point with out using a bow square?

@dodgyplonk Yes.
I have placed the arrow on the string and have used anything that has a 90 degree angle to square it. You could use a small framing square, framers speed square (I have used this many times), DVD case if nothing else...as long as it is a 90 degree angle it will work.
