A few select quotes and good lines from Christopher Hitchens' book, "Why Orwell Matter."
I hope the locale in Central Park wasn't too noisy!

Trotsky also noticed that many people fighting for the Red Army became deserters who defected. So he decided that if you caught a deserter, you would have to kill him on sight. Then he thought, "What if the soldiers on the front line refuse to charge?" He decided that the soldiers behind them have to point guns at their backs; if the soldiers in the front don't charge, then THEY have to be shot by those behind them. Trotsky's apologists often gloss over this stuff.

MrCropper, I borrowed Anthony Burgess's "1985" from the library. It was quite interesting. Half the book is a novel. The other half is a weird bit of nonfiction in which Burgess has a dialogue with himself; two sides of himself are conversing.
Burgess is probably most famous for "A Clockwork Orange." I didn't like that at all. But I did find "1985" interesting. It's about a world run by trade unions - the U.K. might have become like that if Thatcher didn't triumph over the coal unions.

MrCropper, thank you for mentioning the video I sent you. It is a speech by Kelly Tsai, and the title is "Little Red Books." It's on her YouTube channel "kztsai."

MrCropper, it's really nauseating: I often hear politically-correct left-wingers say that the Soviet Union only became a horrible place because that selfish jerk Stalin became leader, and if only Trotsky became the Head of State instead, then everything would have been perfect. The book "Trotsky: The Eternal Revolutionary" by Dmitri Volkogonov disproves that. The Soviets threatening that if you didn't show up for work, you'd get shot, was Trotsky's idea & Trotsky made sure it was enforced.

Actually, we don't call them Youth's, we call them Chav's. In Britain we have a very high teenage pregnancy rate, the highest in Europe.
