"A Warning to the Curious" The Kings Readings.

Montague Rhodes James - English Mediaeval Scholar & Provost of King's College, Cambridge 1905--1918.

A wonderfully atmospheric production, it's as if you're there, with MR James, reading the stories to you in his rooms at the college. I listen/ watch these when my Christmas tree is up, fire on, and with a warming drink, very civilized & very creepy too.

Warmest Yuletide Wishes.

  • thank-you so much for this excellent MR James story and awesome performance by Christopher Lee.. I realy appreciate that you took the time to upload this. I,m just begining to listen to MR JAmes stories.. A new discovery for me. thank-you patti

  • @fantasyfan2010 - You're welcome Patti, really glad you liked it. I think there are quite a few available on the BBC's 'iPlayer' at the moment. You can't access them directly, not being in the UK, but if you know how to use some kind of proxy service, you might be able to fool the site you're here, and listen away ;-)

  • Faultless production.

This is EXACTLY how I would've presented an M.R. James story for TV: The elegant, candle-lit room, the twilight shots of beach and countryside, the close-ups of old parchment... and of course, Christopher Lee narrating. Perfect!

When was this made? Late 90s?

And were they ever released on DVD?

  • @PabloJalan - Indeed glad you like them. As far as I know they're not on any DVD, but they might be part of some kind of compendium, hope I find them sometime! As to the date, I'm sure I recorded them from where I live now, and I moved here in 2003; so maybe just after that, I was still using a VHS up to 2006, so it's possible.

  • Been looking for these for years. Even two of them is great - many thanks.

  • @WindyMcFart - Thanks for the nice comment. I've just watched a few seconds again, and unfortunately I uploaded these before I'd learnt how to improve the audio & video, and this isn't great, so when I come across them again, I hope to clean them up ;-)
