A resident of Chicago since 1990, Pavel Cebzan, from Timisoara, Romania, plays two doine following by dance tunes from his native Banat. He is accompanied by a mixed Romanian/Serbian Gypsy ensemble. There isn't much taragot (tarogato, torogoata) on YouTube, so here is some, played by a master.

  • This is a clarinet -- taragots don't have anywhere near as much metal key work.

  • No, it's a taragot (tarogato) made by Stowasser that he bought in South Africa.

  • This instrument comes from Persia, it was improved by the by the Hungarians, that does not make it a Hungarian instrument. Hungarians think everything they touch is theirs. KEEP ON THINKING

  • @marimbadearco Plus, it's got a much deeper, mellower sound than your average oboe or clarinet.

And it doesn't sound like a clarinet...

  • Yeah, cause if Wikipedia says it, it must be right!!!!! In fact, anyone who disagrees with wiki, let's round 'em up against a wall... :S

  • I think that if I have the money I can buy land anywhere on this planet. So, why do we make such a big deal under what flag is the land you own. Romania has land under Ukrainian flag and the people are doing bad. That is a problem. But Hungarians in Romania are not prosecuted or maltreated or discriminated. SO, as you said: PEACE!
