All you people trolling need to calm down! Most people that put fish into bowls are first timers and usually young children that are kind hearted people enough to want a fish (allthough sadly misinformed) maybe you can argue about the fact they should´ve done the research first but the people who are to blame are the pet shop employees and government law that allow these premises to sell fish bowls and sell fish to clearly mis-informed people just to make a quick buck\quid\yen\euro.

water needs to be clean, and move to a new biger tank. ten buck for a 10 gallon

put it this way, they CAN survive in a small bowl.. Just like humans can survive locked in a room. But it is guaranteed the fish will be bored, prone to disease and early death.

Yes, thats right. Rice paddies can be MILES long.. thats many many MANY gallons. Not a tiny bowl.
Bettas originate from Thailand. They are tropical and need their water to be warm. They need heaters.
Go look at a betta in a big bowl/tank and see what their activity levels are. This fish is sluggish. If you really love your fish get a bigger tank.
You are risking pH, ammonia, fluctuations.

@fabrejae Chinese Coast? They are from Thailand. Rice paddies yes. Atleast you were right on one thing. The Rice Paddies are millions of gallons. U keep your Betta in a bowl thats barely a gallon. No ones trying you insult you. Trying to give you the proper information. Atleast 5 gallons with filter and heater is alot better.

What a beautiful betta!!
-
Um.... it can't 'swimmy swim swim' cus the bowl is too small.
-
@fabrejae that's right, they come from rice paddies NOT BOWLS. bowls are cruel for fish.
-
I won't be mean. In fact a betta can be kept in a betta bowl, but water changes are essential.
Also since no one pointned it out, Mermaid, is a male fish :)
-
I actually think it depends on the fish's personality, myself.
As you said, the male gets nervous in big spaces : )
bowls are for rice? Did you, being an idiot, know where the Betta fish originated? In the RICE PADDIES of the Chinese coast. Log that in your brain next time you try to insult myself, whom you don't even know, or my pets.
