In the first case brought by a survivor of domestic violence against the U.S. before an international human rights tribunal, the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights found that the United States violated the human rights of Jessica Lenahan (formerly Gonzales) and her children. The decision underscores that the U.S. is failing in its legal obligation to protect women and girls from domestic violence.

  • The authorities in this nation have become more and more indifferent and in some cases annoyed by citizens demanding that they uphold the law.

  • @balvear The same Bible that often treats women as property?

  • Jessica, I have followed your case when I first learned of the horrible crime done to your children. You are an inspiration. This video was beautifully done, and you did such a wonderful job speaking so eloquently about your own situation and the problem in general. You are a tremendous person and I hope you see results for your efforst and your horrific loss. Paige

  • I am appalled, but not surprised, at our justice system. I experienced the turn of tables, the smug good-ole-boy culture, when it got down to the line in the courtroom, during a difficult divorce some decades ago. Today's environment cries out for the humanity in us to remedy this cold, corporate and greed controlled culture. I am so sorry for Ms. Lenahan's unspeakable losses and grief; and I admire her courage to redirect her pain into needed activism.

  • @GnarlyNewEngland No, I have read the Bible, it is in no way consistent. There are obvious differences in accounts of the same events from book to book. In addition, the current Bible is not even the same as it was originally. Our earliest manuscripts have glaring differences from the one we have today. And disregarding all that, you have no way to prove that the book was divinely inspired anyway, leaving it as no more than a book of fairy-tales.

  • @balvear Well yes it teaches that too, but the Bible is rarely ever consistent. You could probably use the Bible to argue for any point if you assume it's true.

  • I'm extremely surprised that even the Supreme Court turned her down. That's insane!
