MyZeil Frankfurt Opening

On February 26, 2009 "MyZeil", Frankfurts brand-new shopping mall on the main shopping street "Zeil" opened to the public. This 2-minute film shows the spectacular interior with its Tornado-shaped glass facade and the multitude of escalators lifting thousands of visitors to the different shop floors.

The onslaught of people during the day was so gigantic that security had to shut off the main entrance for some time and then only let groups of around 100 people in to avoid the emergency exit ways to be blocked by the crowds.

Interesting. When they opened Seattle's Westlake Center 20 years ago, they had to have security guards posted at the ends of the escalators. At first I wondered why: and then I found out. There were so many people using the escalators that the floor space near where the escalators let people out were completely jammed, and the people still on the escalators more or less crashed into the crowds, and people behind THEM fell on top of them.

It looks familiar to the mall in Warsaw, Poland. They used the same techniques as a design.. Ya'll should check it out! But I think the one in Warsaw has a more attractive outside view, and this one a more attractive inside perspective. :)

Oh, my God! How I would love to be able to be there right now. Los Angeles isn't all bad, but shopping, especially for food, in Germany is absolutely 'The Cat's Meow.' Nothing in the wide, wide world beats a genuine pair of 'Frankfurter Würstchen' with a bit of real good Sauerkraut and mustard!
