On December 11, 2011, Cardinal John Foley died at the age of 76. He retired earlier this year while undergoing treatment for leukemia. Most recently serving as the Grand Master of Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, the Pennsylvania-born Cardinal was previously the President of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications. He is famously known as the "voice of Christmas" for having provided television commentary for the Midnight Mass from St. Peter's Basilica for 25 years. His interview with Fr. Thomas Rosica was filmed in 2008.

The broadcasts of the Midnight Mass from the Vatican is not the same without his voice.

Cardinal John Foley is certainly one of the great leaders of the Roman Catholic Church. His recent retirement is a loss to us all. However I believe he is planning to write a book about his experiences as a priest. This is going to be a very interesting book.
