Indian Army Combs for Militants in Rajouri

One civilian is dead and more than a dozen members of India's military are injured after an attack in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Militants attacked the convoy on its way back to a base after completing a mission. A bus was also caught in the crossfire.

In the wake of a militant attack on an Indian army convoy Wednesday, security forces have begun an extensive search operation in the Rajouri region in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

Earlier in the day, a group of militants targeted a convoy with about 50 people while it was returning to Jammu after an operation.

In the ensuing gun battle, a bus with civilian passengers came in the line of fire of the militants. A female passenger in the bus was fatally hit.

14 members of the convoy were injured as well, and have been admitted to a hospital in Rajouri.

Soon after the attack, the army launched a search operation with the help of paramilitary and state police forces. They have cordoned off the area.

According to media reports, militants fatally attacked three policemen in Sopore, located in the valley region of the state.

This incident comes in the wake of the prime minister's appeal to stop violence in the valley on Tuesday.
