"When Sunny Gets Blue" was recorded Dec. 28, 1956 with orchestra arranged and conducted by Gordon Jenkins. The song was recorded at a time when everything Nat was singing seemed like gold. Johnny Mathis nicely covered "When Sunny Gets Blue" some years later, and it really is hard to pick between the two since the arrangements are so similar, but since Nat's came first....

  • Is the original "When Sunny gets Blue"?

I've heard many covers of this from singers and just instrumentals and am confused. My high school choir is doing this arrangment for the Spring Show and Im curios to find out whom the original was.

  • @crow66693 The two most popularly recorded versions are this one by Nat and one done by Johnny Mathis some time later which I also have posted to YouTube. I would assume that Nat's version was the "original", but some lesser artist may have recorded it prior to this....Nocaro

  • @Nocaro Thanx for the info.Do you know Key this song is played in?

  • @crow66693 Sorry, that I don't know.

  • @Nocaro you wouldn't know where to get the sheet music to Gordon Jenkins arrangement would you?

  • @violiner9391 Unless you were to write Capitol Records and request this, I would have no idea how to obtain it.
