most western aircraft (probably 737 and after, A320 and after E170/190 that kind of thing) are put into the upright position for takeoff and landing (and turn around). The Upright position is as far forward as they go. 727 though may well be different being an earlier aircraft. Tu154 is of similar vintage in design.
