Public Execution of Anti-Saleh Fighter- Yemen

As President Ali Abdullah Saleh clings to power in Sanaa, he withdraws loyalist security from south Yemen, they leave behind their weapons, and several towns fall to Ansar Al-Sharia which is an extremist violent sect. The revolutionary units of the Yemen Free Army and those that do not pledge allegience to the president stay on, by contrast, to fight Ansar Al-Sharia and retake the towns. The revolutionary forces are aided by local tribes who have also taken up arms against Ansar, the local tribes being very crucial due to their knowledge of the areas and the people in them.

This video shows the public execution by Ansar of one such local fighter in the town of Ja'ar. He was involved in a gun battle against Ansar in which one of the Ansar was killed. He was summarily sentenced to death for "murder". The tarpaulin is laid for him. At 0.30s the condemned can be seen saying his last prayers. At 2.40 the car is removed and the condemned comes forward. His execution takes place at the end by gun shot to the back of the neck/head while he is lying down. This is a Yemen government style execution. For example see the famous execution of the Yemen barber convicted of murder in exactly this manner.

It is widely believed by the Yemen Free Army that the president let Abyan Governate, where Ja'ar town lies, to fall to Ansar deliberately, on the evidence of the pattern of withdrawal of loyalist forces including Republican Guards and Special Forces whose job it is to fight terrorism. They accuse the president of using "Al-Qaeda" (to which Ansar has a similar ideology) to divert from his own position. The loyalist forces trained to fight Al-Qaeda are oddly in Sanaa shooting and shelling unarmed peaceful anti-government protesters. The Yemen Free Army further accuses the president of his own agents leading Ansar terrorist operations. Indeed when the uniformed loyalist forces left Abyan it is confirmed they left all their ammunition and weapons for Ansar to pick up and wage a war for months.

The attache tells them that it is the government who is repsonsible for the explosions and assassinations, that it is them who brought terrorism and made it grow around Aden.
