World War III is a thought provoking look at an alternate ending of the Cold War. Compiled largely from TV news pictures and military videos from the period, World War III cleverly combines this footage in a convincing manner to give the illussion that what is depicted actually took place.

  • Wow! What a GREAT movie! Very clever. And so realistic.

  • So very well done. A labor of love, clearly, and almost entirely seamless. And it was great to see the Iron Lady in fine form once again.

  • thanks for the upload, great series.

  • @bmwodessa1 One bomber probably would have been shot down. The SYOP plan called for hundreds of bombers simultaneously roaming the USSR. More than a match for a weakened Soviet air force.

And as for madmen, you don't remember Brezhnev's speech at the UN, do you?

  • In our pessimissim, we often fail to see how often in history cooler heads do indeed prevail.

  • If Nukes had been used, the VIPs in their fallout shelters would live long enough to regret that they weren't outside with the rest of the masses when the bombs fell.

  • What is a bit misleading here is that it was the military doctrine of NATO to use tactical nuclear bombs if the Red Army had broken through forward defensive lines (which they almost certainly would have considering their overwhelming mass of armour and infantry). I can remember West-German schoolbooks of the 80's where they depicted large areas of eastern West-Germany and parts of East-Germany as potential nuclear battle zones. This was all part of the nuclear deterrence strategy.

  • @usrob1 I think it's extreme to say "the old guard dreamed of world domination". You are repeating a common western narrative. A more accurate statement is "the old guard was paranoid about the threat of western expansionism". Not at all the same thing as what you said.

I know all about the brutality of communism, but I'm not so naive as to think the people in charge of the system lived in some kind of mental fantasy land. They were practical people who knew the ways of the world.

  • I liked the movie. I have always liked what if movies, especially if they take an actual historic event and show what might have happened if 1 or 2 things were changed. It makes a person think.

  • @nojyt Yes, I can believe it. They clearly represent the old guard who dreamed of world domination. They wouldn't care if there was a chance to bring that about. Also, look how brutal they have put down any protest or want for change to the system. At last report it is widely believed that over 100 million people have been murdered by communism. What is another few million to them with that body count. Think about it.

  • @bmwodessa1 I guess you have no understanding of the real flaws of the than soviet tech. You have just proven your ignorance.

  • Well, an interesting movie. But since it was made in USA/GB or something, obviously USSR are portrayed as the evil bunch of madmen. And the 9th part gave me so much laugh when they showed US B-52 bomber with a caption: "Somewhere over Siberia", lol. It would not even get close to the land before it would've been taken down.

Also part where there was like 42 or something submarines and few american ships penetrated the "line" in Atlantic Ocean to bring supplies =)) jokers :)
