A Southwest Airlines flight from Phoenix to California was diverted to a military base in Yuma due to rapid decompression in the plane. The airline confirmed there was a hole in the top of the aircraft. (April 1)
perhaps the airlines should stop sending their aircraft overseas to have the heavy inspections completed. Many of the mechanics overseas do NOT have FAA licenses. Its normally a company representative that signs off all the work that the unqualified mechanics perform. All airlines send the maintenance of aircraft overseas because of labor costs in the United States. More to come I am sure
They are VERY lucky the aircraft wasnt at a higher altitude because with a hole that large the aircraft could have lost pressure a lot faster and caused the air frame to implode.
@Villageidiots86 not everyone knows about the Aloha... not Hawaiian airlines flight with the hole in the fuselage. Most people don't know procedures during these type of incidents, if the aircraft nose dives after an explosion, it's acceptable for people to believe the plane is gonna crash. I don't recall, have to watch again, that anyone complained of the mask not working, but people stated they had trouble putting on their mask and operating it.
hmm, I remember when American Airlines had to cancel a lot of their flights due to routine checks with the MD-80 mandated by the FAA because of Southwest Airlines cutting corners with their maintenance records... This isn't the first flight for Southwest with holes in their fuselages of their aircrafts. Maybe being the cheapest airline, isn't quite the best thing after all.
