This Handel song was well sung by Gwyneth Paltrow and Ewan McGregor in the 1996 film of Jane Austen's 'Emma'. The expressions of the other actors during the song tell various stories. My audio was recorded in 2007 and I developed the video in 2009.

  • Thank You for this beautiful version. It is one of my all time favourites. Truly beautiful.

  • @Rick45451000 Thank you for your kind comment - I'm so glad you enjoyed my version. It's also on iTunes but no longer on Amie Street. Warm regards - David Keith Jones

  • This is incredible. I've never heard a voice in such a control of pitch and volume.

  • @sirjosh2009 Thanks for your kind comment. The David Keith Jones version is also on iTunes and Amazon MP3.

  • Thanks again! I don't do much on You Tube at present due to albums for iTunes etc but was intrigued by your channel. I am from a mining family. My grandad supported of Uncle Joe then became a Maoist.. During the 1984-5 strike I supported the miners, but on visiting Wales found that some people distrusted Arthur's leadership - defeat from the jaws of victory etc.

My school contemporary Neil Kinnock became leader of the UK Labour Party.

Best wishes - David (David Keith Jones)

  • @VoceVersatile this is truly beautiful--perhaps some of the chandos anthems?

  • @vivascargill Thanks for you kind comment. Handel, being German, of course kept in with the Hanoverians - as did Shakespeare with the Tudors. A great composer, nonetheless.

  • Beautiful!! ironic that Handel could write Hail the conquering hero celebrating the butcher of the Scots at Culloden

  • Thank you so much, Sarah. I re-recorded it with Sibelius. You can sample the new version free via Google: VoceVersatile Amie Street.

  • David, I saw you put this song on your iTunes album. Congratulations on that, and hope it does great. The 1996 "Emma" was a lovely movie, and hearing you sing this song makes me think of lovely things like gardens, birds, flowers.
