cool beans this is the way i purl too. i just learned to knit two days ago, and discovered myself that it was an easier way to hold the yarn for purling. and when i need to knit, i just flip the yarn over the needle tip and hold it with my index finger.
never tried english style knitting i guess i feel it might be uncomfortable.
GOD Bless you and thanks for posting up!

@yewberrypie I just saw this.. and my sister had typed it. I don't even type like that. I always put a period at the end and capitalize my first letter of the sentence.. and my sister is 8 so it explains why she said it was boring. I knit and it's interesting. I don't even look at your videos (sorry) I look at another channel for knitting tutorials and such. Sorry for my sister's rude comment though.

It's really interesting to find out how many different methods there are to purling... I think I've counted at least five and I haven't even watched any videos about English style yet. My mother taught me the Norwegian method (of course she didn't call it that, to her it was just knitting) and in my opinion it's the simplest and quickest one. There are no extra movements and you don't really need to watch what you are doing every second. But as long as the end result is the same, who cares?
Thank you so much for this video! I've always been frustrated with how much more slowly I purl than knit, and with how time consuming it is to switch between the two stitches. This will make me so much faster and happier!

@tkdchik316 You're welcome! I can't believe how many hits my little vid has gotten. Must be just the right combo of keywords. :)

That is the first time I have ever seen anyone else purl this way. It is so much faster that any other. If I am working long sections of stockinette on circular or double points, I will reverse the work and purl because it is so fast and consistent.

@amsensabaugh Never tried it in reverse. I have good luck moving the yarn to the back and knitting off my thumb, then quickly flicking the yarn to the front and purling. Makes rib stitching very efficient.
