there's something about radio which is timeless, in your mind it's so real, Hancock died three years before I was born and yet The Wildman of the woods, The Poetry Society, the Last Bus Home, they remain so strongly in my memory from my childhood because I listened to them

This is such an informative and well made program, thanks for posting it.

They also used 'up the bracket' which I have only heard used by Sid James.

Cheers colonslappy, this is terrific. Re your quote from "The Poetry Society", I'd always heard it as "Steel rods have reasoned through my head", and I must have heard this episode 70 or 80 times. Wonder if I've misheard it all these years!

BTW. If you want to read some funny stories about Billy Kerr, read Michael Pate's book 'An Entertaining War'
The Libertine's song Vertigo contains the line "lead pipes fortunes made" must be a reference to the Poetry Society, isn't that in Sid's poem? "white city, blue haringey, hick hike hock"
