What a beautiful sound provided by a unique arrangement of an old favorite-my hats off to people who would select this type of music, and preserve it for future generations.

@maynardcat I was in High School in Decorah, Iowa in the early 60s when I bought the Command Performances album and heard that bass bone. I always had issues with my high register, and my band director convinced me that bass bone might be my answer. I bought one, and 50 years later I get the bass bone book in the orchestra. I'm a lucky man. You might also go to my own website Pecos River Brass. This is the band that doubles for the LEO when they get a gig.

@3rdsamdan Thank you for contributing to making 'The Band with that Sound' sound so great.

I remember playing this album of my dad's - a Glenn Miller fan - and how great it sounded. You brought back fond memories of my parents coming in my bedroom dancing to a Elgart tune. dad is gone but the memory of this remains...and the music. Thanks guy!

One of my favorites Elgart albums was "For dancers only".

@scotnick59 Alway appreciate it when someone contributes some history, THANKS! I also think this is fantabulous, could listen nonstop for an hour, can't believe the DEPTH of the bass sound! I've built a music channel that's a library of everyone else's uploads & maynard's are some of the best! I go for amazing arrangements like these. Come check out my 700 playlists honoring over 400 artists & every year since 1900! chuck

A very creatively swinging version of a a song usually heard as a lullaby - almost.
THE UNINIVITED introduced it in 1944 sans the lyrics which came later. LOVE IT.

I'm current Bass Bone with the Les Elgart "Ghost" Orchestra out of Dallas. We play Thursday, Sept 29, 2011, at 12:15 noon in Hurst TX....FREE concert. Go to Leselgart website and get more info. It's still a great band. John C. Smith.

@PecosRiverBrass Hi John. Les Elgart is not only my favorite orchestra, but just the sound of the orchestra brings back nostalgic memories for me. The very same Les Elgart albums featured in my videos were played many years ago during family get togethers around Thanksgiving and Christmas, and remind me of very pleasant days of the past. I found the website and I know I will enjoy it.. 'Thanks for the information.

I played bass with the Elgart Bands in the mid 70's (Les & Larry had separate bands at that time). This was a favorite of band members. We used to all hum along with the sax soli and tick Larry off. The band was a blast and many future stars (myself not included) came through the band back then. Tom Harrell and Randy Jones come to mind. Thanks for sharing this great big band sound! Kirk Schmidt

@3rdsamdan Nice to hear from someone who was associated with such a great band, and this is also one of my favorite Les Elgart songs. I made a CD of this album to play in the car and always turn it up load when it comes on. It has such a rich smooth classy sound, great arrangement, and so relaxing to listen to. I have many Les Elgart albums, and whenever I see any Les Elgart albums at a sale I never pass them up, even if I have a copy.

The Columbia stereo fidelity records sound wonderful.. would be best heard if you could cable up to your camera from your receiver/amp rec out jacks... just a suggestion.

Yes it could be improved. The stereo has the high quality sound, but is very limited in the video by my camera, which doesn't.sound that good. I would have to have a professional type camera with inputs to do that, and something I might look into. A camcorder with quality recording ability would be fine. I don't like direct to PC recording unless you have an expensive Hi-Fi sound card. Some direct to PC uploads sound flat due to the poor quality of the PC sound card.
