When my first child, my daughter Zoe, was born on my birthday, September 24th, it seemed to me to be an amazing metaphor for becoming a mother. While I didn't know which end of a diaper was up, my husband Marc and I felt an immense connection and desire to protect and nurture our baby. I was aware that the reason it felt so easy to access that unconditional love, that must have been the kind of love I myself had received from my parents. Zoe was the first grandchild of my generation, and was born in the year that my father was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. His health declined rapidly. When I perform this song, sometimes it seems the whole audience cries along with me. To my surprise, I have learned that they are grateful for the chance to revisit their own losses.

Far from making sorrow worse, every time you shed tears you actually accept your grief a little more. Our wounds need the dignity of our attention, in order to heal.

Music has tiny fingers, and can reach places in the heart that words alone cannot. So when you hear my song, or any song, and it makes you want to cry - I hope you open your heart to the healing that tears can bring.

  • I would like to dedicate this song to all the mothers in the world and to all the mothers that had loss their mothers. No one can feel your pain unless they've experienced themselves. I'm very grateful for my mom, who is still alive, just thinking about not having my mom around when I'm older, already brought tears to my eyes. This song is so wonderful but sad at the same time. You sang wonderfully Amy Sky.

  • This song brings me to tears everytime.

  • the circle of life between Mothers and daughters....Beautiful. Full of joy and pain. PURE EMOTION.

  • when did this song come out?

  • This song is beautiful. I am dedicating to a friend I've met on Facebook, whom informed me her Mother passed this past May. I have never met this person, nor her Mother; however have viewed pictures of both.

I think it a fitting tribute as I know my friend loved her Mother and took great care of her. With lots of love Barb.

  • I absolutely adore this song. I heard this song many years ago before I had my children (I think...its all a bit of a blur to be honest) I never realized what a full circle motherhood is. You have captured that beautifully in this song. All of my children have special needs (autism) and I would often sing the chorus to them when they were babies. The tears I have shed have been what you said...healing to the soul. Thank you for sharing your wondeful gift with us Amy!

  • This song is one of my favorite song. I only can listen to the song, coz singing it brought tears to my eyes. Melody and lyrics was so excellente'.
