  • The Story of Gilbert and Sullivan (1953). Made by British Lion Films Ltd. Directed by Sydney Gilliat. Maurice Evans as Sullivan and Robert Morley as Gilbert with Peter Finch as D'Oyle Carte.

  • I like the singers - it's wonderful to finally see Round and Green - but the tempo is SO SLOW! Typical of Sargent at the time.

REPLY: Speaking as a musician, I disagree about the tempo being too slow. I think the tempo is just right. Malcolm Sargent was perfect for Gilbert and Sullivan.

  • The tempo is spot on. How wonderful to see Martyn Green the greatest of all the D'Oyly Carte comedians.

  • what film is this?

  • We are just so luck to have Martyn Green on film.as with his 1939 The Mikado. It gives people who never saw him preform Gilbert & Sullivan how good he was. Such a shame he lost his leg in a accident in the 1950's,,,I was very luck to see this man preform on stage..
