A friend and I took up a Cherokee-160 and explored the flight envelope with it ;-) while keeping a 3D GPS track log. After the flight, the 3D track log was imported into Google Earth and this tour created. Using SketchUp, semi-transparent 3D airspace can also be easily drawn in, though that hadn't been done yet when this video was created. Next time! (And next time we must be sure and do our maneuvers in "non-overlapping" space so it'll be easier to review.)

This is a proof-of-concept video which demonstrates that you can take a real-world 3D GPS track and easily visualize it in Google Earth from any camera angle.

Note: Don't worry. All maneuvers were well within the limits of the aircraft, performed at a safe altitude, away from populated areas, under full control, and with ATC radar services ("flight following"). ;-)

  • Heres a Box'O'Life! Its a 6pack! Here you go :D

  • pretty funny, once a flight is in the air,not much use to a terrorist.Also,on-line flight trackers are updated not in real time. Close but not right on the mark.I would imagine terrorist would resort to GPS tracking for exact marks. This is only my opinion.I am not an expert...just enjoy flight tracking(for some reason,it can get kinda boring at times...but I still do it! I gotta geta life!

  • awesome

  • Very cool, I am working on software to easily combine your GPS, Digital Camera, and Google Earth. Look forward to seeing more videos of your experiments
