So many years later, I can't hear "Für Elise" and NOT bust out with "Jonathan can't come out and play right now...he's practicing the piano." It's Pavlovian, and even my wife didn't understand it until she finally got to see this ad. Still have quite a few of my stereo components from Highland, too!

Well, he ruled Saturday afternoons! Cartoons first ("Super Friends", "Scooby Doo" and "Plastic Man" were pretty high on that list) then a short wait till Sir Graves appeared. "Happy Haunting! Nya-ha-ha-ha-ha-hah!" Gods, I remember the thrill when my mother explained to me how they did "The Blob" segments, and though he never read my letter on screen, he DID read the letter of a kid I knew. Also, I should have included "Bozo the Clown" among my Childhood TV Memories!

Was Highland Appliance the store that ran a commerical about a new employee having to open the store doors on the day after thanksgiving? There was a mob of people outside, and the employee who opened the doors the previous year was in a body cast.

Thank you so much for posting this. You are my hero!!!! I grew up in Windsor in the 80's and between this and the Detroit Zoo one they are both embedded in my brain.

Yes, those two commercials, plus the Highland "50 watts per channel" ads are also my favorites.

Thanks for posting this! This commercial comes to mind every time I hear that tune - which is one of the alarm sounds on a machine at work. Now I can share it with my co-workers who are (ahem) too young to remember it.
