I agree that the best drivers in the world are in F1 but the supposedly 'worst' driver in F1 will easily win in F1 in the right car. That is really what sucks about F1 - it is a very elitist series where only 2 teams can win because of how much the car matters. I'd love to see F1 drivers in identical cars to find out who the best driver really is. That's what racing should be - the best drivers should be on top, not the drivers with the best cars.
i agree that in formula one the major difference in performance is the cars. most the drivers on the grid have the ability to win given the best car. however the best drivers in formula one (raikonnen, alonso etc..) are the best at open wheel racing in the world, and that may be why formula one is more attractive to me. if a1gp pitted the best drivers in the world against each other in the same cars it would be fascinating.
IMO the top drivers in A1 would absolutely be competitive in F1 if given a good car. In F1, the car is 95%, the driver is 5%; in A1 the driver is what counts because the cars are all the same. Take F1 in Monaco last week - Sutil had some of the fastest laps and was poised to take 4th in a car that's not even close to competitive under normal circumstances but he was fast due to the road conditions where driving skills played a much bigger role than usual. Give Jani a Ferrari in F1 and he'll win!
I think A1 is a lot more value for money. You get to see two races A1 races where there is gauranteed too be loads of action in each. I've been to silverstone for the last two years and both f1 races have been two of the most boring races I've ever seen. If you love F1 then you should go, and it is almost worth it now with Lewis Hamilton having the chance at being able to win. But in my personaly opinion you should just save the extra £300 or whatever and just watch it on tv.
going to the grand prix is most definately worth the extra cost of the ticket, its one of the most memorable experiences i have. the speed, the occasion and just the spectacle are all incredible.
i love all types of motorsport including this, but the fact that karthikeyan can win in this but yet was a complete when racing for the jordan f1 team emphasises the game in quality between the two formulas. formula one is and always will be more exciting and better to watch, purely because there are better quality drivers. most the current f1 drivers if not all would win every race were you to put one of them in this.
i think it depends on where you go and what you get. i'm really not an expert but i've been to silverstone and monza with cheapish seats, and although it was amazing i found A1 funer because i got such a good view (sat on Paddock, could see all up Druids) but i think you should definately go see an F1 gp at some point just for the experience. And the noise.
See you there crossland...got my ticket :)
