A mysterious figure of the late '60s who put out an interesting eponymous album on the names-can-be-deceptive Chartmaker label. With his funky, keyboard-based rock and full, soulful vocals, Darius sounded like a more eccentric and far moodier, doomier counterpart to Lee Michaels. The record was imaginatively arranged and produced, with flourishes of flamenco guitar, odd echo-tinkles, and some dynamic organ and bass hooks adding to its overall air of idiosyncrasy. It's little known, even among psychedelic collectors, and worthy of exhumation on CD reissue. ~ Richie Unterberger

I met Darius in Hollywood in 1963. I recorded an instrumental track on the Chamberlin sampling machine and then went into a recording studio and had Darius and the San Chez sisters sing Alone Without Love. I sold it to Venett Records who were going to release it. Story is the owner of Venett was staying at an apartment of the girlfriend of someone else (the girl was out of town at the time). The boyfriend came in, found the guy and shot him dead. And the record died as well. tobytune@mac.com

PLEASE keep me informed on any future releases! I love the first LP (on CD) - (the only one that I found!!). It's a masterpiece.......nothing before or after it quite sounded like Darius. Incredible, haunting beyond words. PLEASE keep in touch and thank you.

My dear friend Bobby (Robert Joseph Ott), born by a German father and Sicilian mother in Ohio.

I have found Bobby after near 20 years of searching with the help of Toxey French and Jerry Scheff.

Both LP´s was released out of my hard work and passion.

Bobby sadly passed away a few years ago suffering from cancer.

I still have over three LP´s of unrelesed material by him.
