  • Good overview of the tracklaying process. Which particular gauge is used here? Mining railroads in the United States use 2'-0" (0.6m) gauge tracks underground, but 3'-0" (0.9m) is the most common "mainline" narrow gauge (vs. 4'-8.5", or 1.5m, standard)

  • @bcschmerker I didnt measure it on my visit but thought I could find the answer to that question on their website but it wasnt mentined there, as far as i could discover. It may be worth having a look yourself anyway, because it does have lots of other interesting information there.

  • It would be fantastic to reopen all of it between Lynton and Barnstaple!

  • @Paulwherrell There is enough enthusiasm there! Its all down to the cash being found somehow, to get more progress in that direction!

  • Those interested can see my video of that event by searching for TRAIN PREPORATION AT WOODY BAY and three others that follow.

  • You're right! I expect they were grateful for any loco to lend a hand in the heavy work!

  • There was a lovely bit of clag coming from that diesel at the start, eh?

  • Its wonderul what can be achieved by a dedicated group of enthusiasts! I went to their recent gala day and you would think everything had been running there for a long time.

  • What a superb record Mike, I travelled on the line a year or so back so it was very interesting to see the work behind it...great commentary as well...5* Bob
