http://wisconsinjobsnow.org Dec 13: Sen. Ron Johnson's office was filled with holiday cheer on Tuesday as a group of carolers stopped by to urge the Senator not to be a Grinch and to support a full extension of unemployment insurance before December 31. Singing modified carols like "We Wish You Will Not Evict Us" instead of "We Wish You A Merry Christmas," the assorted wassailers made merry on the steps of Sen. Johnson's office in Milwaukee until confronted by a Grinch. The costumed curmudgeon berated the carolers but was quickly stopped by unemployed workers who urged the Grinch to have a heart and moved him with their stories of personal hardship.

There are millions of families that rely on emergency unemployment benefits, and unless Congress agrees to pass an extension of these benefits by December 31 these families will face a New Year without any source of income. After learning these facts, the Grinch agreed to go with his newfound friends into Sen. Johnson's office to urge him to also "have a heart." Unfortunately, the Grinch-led delegation was stopped at the door by security and was not allowed to even enter the building to holiday deliver the card they had brought for the Senator.

Unfazed by the chilly reception, the revelers continued on singing the "Twelve Days of Christmas" modified to be a list of troubles caused by bankers. Although the Senator did not receive guests on Tuesday, his office is currently accepting phone calls. Call him at 414-276-7282 and demand that he support extending unemployment benefits FULLY. Let them know not to support a watered down measure that would eliminate benefits for millions down the road.
