Breaking Into 4.2U: Proof of Concept: Upgrading and Downgrading Back Again

**There is no reason to downgrade, it is risky and might brick your Wii (very likely, chances are you'll downgrade to a stubbed IOS which will brick your Wii). Plus, to downgrade you need to fully mod 4.2 so there is no reason to downgrade in the first place.**

In this video I prove its possible to keep Homebrew on your Wii at Wii system menu 4.2U and that you can always downgrade again using special install procedures.

From 4.1U to 4.2U, I installed a trucha signed IOS70 and IOS38, and a non trucha signed IOS56, 57 and 61. I then installed the Wii Shop Channel's newest version (17) and then updated the Wii System Menu by installing it directly.

I then used FSToolbox to install a modified .app file, part of the decrypted Wii System Menu that was legally downloaded using NUS Downloader.

Normally, upon the reset Homebrew would have been deleted (it restarted the system menu which normally deletes the Homebrew and DVDx channels) but with the patched System Menu, it stays clean.

After upgrading and patching 4.2U to allow Homebrew, I downgrade my Wii and prove bootmii as a boot2 replacement still works. Enjoy :).

i cant use my freeloader and dont know why it says error and few other things dont know why mine is 4.2 u but did get something on hombrew channel that lets me play all the reigon games but didnt have one yet so i erased it because i was getting a freeloader in the mail now i doesnt work now i wish i didnt erase it

Freeloader is outdated by over a year......... It stopped working on 3.2U......

i am on 4.2 and the only ios that works is ios61 but it said error 2011 so how can i downgrade without useing a ios or install wads without ios

Okay, only even think about downgrading if you have an older wii, from mid 2008 or before. Anything after that is un-downgradable.

But if you do, then first thing you want to do is read up on IOS, what it is, and how it works. Then, use DOP-Mii to remove any stub IOSes that you may have installed. Then, install either IOS 60 (for 4.0-4.1) or IOS70 (for 4.2). Then, you can safely downgrade the system menu.
