  • @AulicExclusiva Thanks for the biographical information and forwarding this clip to me. A lovely singer indeed. Thanks to ZeaniFan for the post!

  • Lydia Yakovlevna Lipkowska[ya] (1880-1958) was born in Babino, 11 miles from Białystok, in "Congress" Poland. Her father's name was Jakob Marschner. She was trained at the Sankt-Petersburg Conservatory and made her début at the Maryinsky in 1906. Her career lasted until about 1930-31. She then settled at Bucharest and taught there until war came, at which time she moved to Beirut, where she spent the rest of her life.

She made 29 recordings between 1911 and 1914, all beautiful.

  • Thank you, Zeanifan, for this amazing posting. As I'm sure you are aware, Mlle. Lipkowska was Mme. Zeani's teacher, prior to her going to Milan to study with Toscanini's tenor, Aureliano Pertile, and his repetiteurs at La Scala.

    Bravaaah!
