Fantastic! I must admire you Brits for your love of looking back and enjoying your past, especially your steamers. Many of us Americans, myself NOT included, have no care for learning where we came from. I'm guessing most of us who care about steam believe in "to know where we're going, we must know where we came from"? Take care,

@tom201090 I ran out of space thank you for the info on the UK steam site I hear Clapham Jct is the place to go to do some train watching
-
@tom201090 man I wish I could have been in London today to see that depart unfortunatlly I am over in the US in Texas the closest I get to this is if I do a trip to London I will be there someday to see this but hell its almost impossible to get a good shot at Kings Cross with all of the restrictions from Network rail with the train being so long unless they pull up to the buffer with the loco I tried to get a shot of the Dominun of New Zealand when we did GB4 but no luck to many trainspotters

@gaycowboy31 there is a site uk steam info which lists all steam railtours in UK. Tornado is due out of Kings Cross tomorrow (13/8/11) at 08:18 with a train to York due to return at 21:15. After that its due out of Victoria at 08:45 on Wed 17/8/11 to Weymouth due to return at 23:59 HOWEVER it may (if its late) terminate short at Clapham Junction at 23:38.

THATS better... No 67 on the back this time...

Now that is how a steam train should be driven! whack the throttle open, whistle blaring and tearing over the viaduct and through beautiful Durham and its pretty victorian station. Its literally like glipsing steams golden past. Excelent video :)

@gaycowboy31 you can keep on top of special trains on this site; uksteam.info/tours/trs11.htm
I now know this Tornado I was on a steam trip a few years ago in Canada with the Tornado building team I remember it now so I recal them saying it was built new but is this kitbashed parts from retired engines to create this engine or all new ? nonetheless is is Impressive as hell blowing through that station with that whistle blowing

@gaycowboy31 , Tornado is all completely new with the exception of a few small donated / found parts such as the whistle heard in this clip. Tornado basically didn't exist at all 19/20 years ago- that's how long it took to build it from scratch. There are some other new-build projects underway now in the UK - some will use retrieved parts from broken-up members of similar classes, and some will be virtually all-new like Tornado.

I understand Tornado is leading a train out of Kings Cross in Febuary does anyone know anything about that I read something brieflly in a UK rail magazine while in London

@gaycowboy31, The train you refer to is due to depart Kings Cross on February 26th. The best resource for the movements of UK based steam hauled trains and steam locomotives is the uksteam.info website which carries concise details of all such events well in advance, often also giving exact timings and locations for the run a few days prior to the event.

great video I am from the US so this may be a stupid question what ever happened to the famous Flying Scottsman was it not an A1 like this I ofton wondered what ever happened to it
gaycowboy31 1 year ago
@gaycowboy31, 'Flying Scotsman' was bought for the British National Railway Museum collection of railway locomotives in around 2005, and since then has been undergoing major restoration and should hopefully be back in service some time in 2011. 'Flying Scotsman' was originally built in the 1920s as a much earlier, different class also confusingly called 'A1', then rebuilt in the 1940s as an 'A3' which is what it still is now. The Tornado type of 'A1' class dates from the 1940s.
