5 players sat down for a mega-game of Carcassonne. 200+ tiles, 3 different sets combined. Plus the essentials: beer, cotton candy, wine, mini-quiches, chips, and cheese sticks. The initial castle ("The City") was supposed to serve as the inner city, but we didn't have enough room and after fighting a bit decided it wasn't worth the trouble. We did retain the score from that game, however and carried it over.

The game went from 6pm to 3am in the morning. There were no tears, surprisingly, and I think that Chris won in the end although I was too exhausted to care. The face up front is not mine -- I was the guy in the back with the conspicuous ashtray.

The song is the ending credits song from Portal, which is a brilliant game. Thanks to Chris for putting the vid together.

  • what do you do in this game?

  • @ArcSlaya each person lays a tile every turn. tiles must match (roads, castles, farms) when you put them down. you have 7 "meeples" and you can use them to occupy pieces of property in order to earn you points at the end of the game. it is a great introduction to european board games (which, unlike american board games, actually inspire people to THINK and use the brain!) i highly recommend getting the basic game and trying it out.

  • wow how many meeples did you play with?!

  • @suspendedanimation I think we played with 7 regular meeples and 1 double-sized one (the big boy)... so 8 total. and then 1 each on the scoreboard.

  • what was that "first" game all about?

  • @fretwiz We first played the stand-alone game Carcassonne: The Castle. I argued we should keep it as the centerpiece and play all the normal Carcassonne pieces around it, but I got voted down. Instead we just cleared the tiles, but kept the score and rolled it over to the next game.
