This is a grass based herd that we trim once a year with minimal work on them. the farmer likes the fact that the job can be completed in a day as it causes less stress to the cows and less disruption to their daily routine, and two of the farm staff are at hand to load the cows so we just trim.
its not a case of how much hoof to take off but how much you can leave on as they have small feet and are walking on a concrete track so soles are thin.
