As a Giants fan, I remember this game. It was 0-0 into extra innings when Will Clark and Kevin Mitchell hit back to back homers. I thought the game was in the bag and I sat in disbelieve as Mitch plays the carom off the wall wrong and the ball gets away from him. That was the first time I ever saw an inside the park homer. This video is also on the 1989 Battle of the Bay tape. I stilll have it somewhere.
@phillyguy672 You are correct about Dernier. He returned to the Phillies in 1988, and 1989 was be his final season in the big leagues. This turned out to be the last of Dernier's 23 career home runs
This was from the 1989 Phillies home video Companion. This moment was great Harry Lived for these exciting moments and i know he is with us emotionally especially with the Phillies today, with the Phillies heading into postseason for the 5th straight year!! :)
This has to be 1983 because the Giants are in gray jerseys and Dernier is a Phillie. The Giants wore orange or black until 1982 inclusive and Dernier was a Cub in 1984 and after. RIP Harry. You were one of the best ever.
Starring Bob Dernier. Also starring: Harry Kalas and Richie Ashburn doing the screaming. Special guest stars: Steve Lake, Dickie Thon, Tommy Herr, Craig James, Mike Maddux, Larry Bowa and Kurt 'What is That Manwaring.'
I can't thank you enough for posting this all time great call. When I think of Harry Kalas, the 1st thing I think of is this call even though it was just a regular early season game in yet another hopeless season. I was lucky enough to have given up on the Phillies on PRISM that night after the back 2 back home runs gave the Giants their lead. I went upstairs to brush my teeth before bed & figured I would just listen to it on the radio. It truly was the Thrilla in South Philla. Classic moment!
I can't say for sure that I have just one favorite Harry Kalas call, but this would rank at or very close to the top. I was in third grade at the time, listening in bed with the radio under the covers trying to keep from going absolutely nuts. The hardest part was trying to act surprised when my dad told me what happened the next morning!
The video quality isn't great but it brings back good memories of the old Phillies Home Companions they put out after each season

It was in 1989 I think when the phillies were otherwise terrible. Dernier came back to the Phillies.

@smithdogg22 In other words, you were pulling a Wheeler (who also had to do his celebrating without making a sound when the Phils won in 2008)
