A view of where the pole meets the wire, first from the ground and then a camera is clamped to the trolley pole for a unique view as the streetcar passes through several frogs, past the flags and on. Kenosha, WI streetcarbrad

  • How does the trolley pole stay on the right trolley wire when going through a switch?

  • @kjrehberg The "frog" in the overhead wire is made and placed so the pole is at an angle and chooses the diverging route when the car has gone through the diverging (as opposed to straight though) route of the switch. Because the car is going under the one of two wires, the pole angles the pickup shoe to follow the right wire. There is a bang when the shoe goes over the gap like at 1:20 to 1:24. It is automatic, Thanks for your interest.

  • How is it with you guys and dewiring? How often no operators lose their poles while out on the line?

  • Very seldom do we have the pole come off, there have been times when a car has gone through a phase if you will, but right now all is good.

  • Wow, interesting. Where was it shooted?

  • @streetcarbrad I understand it now. That's why trolley polls always trail behind the trolley.

  • Thanks for your reply. It does not swivel the way the shoes on the trolleybus do, right? In other words, it does not swivel 360 degree horizontally? Thanks for clarifying.

  • The shoe does swivel in one direction, it can be tipped front to back

  • Question: Is the trolley head/shoe at the end of the pole a swivel one?
